Creating Authentic Works of art to share with the world

Andrew Pankiewicz

Andrew Pankiewicz (b. 1998, Columbus, MI) discovered a love for dance in a dark, abandoned room. Growing in skill Andrew has developed technique in Jazz, Hip Hop, Tap, Musical Theatre, Ballet, Congolese, and Modern dance. Andrew was a dance captain for the collegiate show choir group, The Macombers. Growing as a leader and choreographer, He hungered to create more dance and share his love of movement to the world. Being involved with local Ballet Companies, He traveled to Macomb, Trenton, and Monroe and worked as a guest artist. Andrew received his BFA in dance from Wayne State University. Training with Meg Paul, Dr. Biba Bell, Dr. Ras Mikey Courtney, and the BIARA Mvmnt Phlsphy taught him the importance of authenticity in dance. He reignited his love for theatrical dance and traveled around Michigan to set new work. Traveling to Florida and performing live with Andy Grammer was a dream come true for Andrew. Driven to share his love of dance with the world, He continues to choreograph for local theaters and venues. Andrew desires to continue to perform and share his love of movement with the community he is currently in.

Artistic Statement

Authentically sharing experiences filled with emotion and watching my movement on stage is my greatest achievement. Power and dance come from within, and dance brings joy, brightening the world. Bringing dance to the community betters the lives of its people by making movement-based creativity accessible. My desire to present dance to communities was inspired by my wish to build stronger bonds. When a community comes together, its people can overcome barriers and uplift those who are downtrodden.

My inspiration comes from life experiences, and from collaboration with dancers and their dynamic lives. Creating impactful works of art will always be possible, to influence change and awareness in the world.

I utilize my current skill set but seek new experiences.

Music is not the beginning of choreography. Movement and intention are the pillars of movement. Researching lyrics, finding melody, and rhythm comes afterwards. The intention of the body or the dance’s message makes me jump into the center of the room. Trusting instincts when creating fresh choreography is key. Local theatre is the birth of my choreographic experience. Putting unrelated things together and making something new is my goal. Storytelling and a strong narrative guide my intentions. I seek to impact my community and nurture future artists. I am a creator, young and ready for what is to come.
